The story of Preferred Paving Company begins in the early 1980s with three colleagues, Dave Myers, Craig Murrell, and Dave Wilkinson, who built their careers at General Paving Company, one of Southern California’s leading asphalt paving contractors. After decades of successful operation, General Paving was dissolved by its ownership, leaving behind a highly experienced team ready to take the next step.
Around that same time, Preferred Paving Company became available for acquisition. Although the company had limited equipment and no active workforce, Myers, Murrell, and Wilkinson recognized its potential. They purchased the company and, leveraging their industry expertise and long-standing relationships, rebuilt it from the ground up. Field crews were assembled, an office team was established, and operations were relaunched with a renewed focus on quality, accountability, and service.
Shortly thereafter, Dave Myers retired, leaving Craig Murrell and Dave Wilkinson as the company’s sole owners. With a strong project management foundation and a growing base of loyal customers, they steadily expanded Preferred Paving through consistent performance, dependable service, and repeat business. From those early rebuilding years, the company has grown into one of Southern California’s most trusted asphalt paving contractors.
